Business of Agriculture Podcast Talks with Farm Equipment Contributor Casey Seymour
Used machinery markets are heating up earlier than normal. Is this because farmers in need of equipment recall getting shut out during the supply chain disruptions of Covid or is there a used equipment shortage? What are interest rates — more than double what they were just a year or so ago— doing to the farm implement market? Does a farmer need the newest and shiniest machinery in an era of evolving and transportable technology? Is there a place for smaller scale farm equipment in tomorrow’s Ag? Is farm machinery a barometer for the greater Ag economy? A predictor of the future? Those questions and more are addressed in this insightful discussion between host Damian Mason and Moving Iron's Casey Seymour.
Former Ag OEM Exec Releases 4th Leadership Book
Cleo Franklin Jr., a former executive at Mahindra, New Holland and Deere, has released his fourth book on leadership. The book — Conversations with Cleo — is a collection of essays largely with a predominant focus on leadership, featuring wisdom and inspirational instances from Franklin and other accomplished business leaders. The new book expands upon Franklin's insights into personal and professional leadership development from his first book, “Coffee with Cleo,” as well as his second book “Lessons from our Mothers and Fathers,” which examined life-shaping moments in the young lives of leaders.
Looking Back: GMO, Autosteer Forever Changed Our Business
Tom Janson, Janson Equipment, Reese, Breckenridge and Charlotte, Michigan, shares his thoughts on the farm equipment industry’s history. He writes, “Fifty years ago, success depended on product, availability and location. These are all still very important. However, today the human resources a dealership has, how they are empowered, how they are rewarded, and the level of commitment to customer satisfaction is the key.”
