Lenexa, Kan. - On Dec. 10, 2021, residents of Mayfield, Ky., were doing the things many communities do during the holiday season — making arrangements and plans, finalizing travel, shopping and getting together with friends and family.
But traditions were cast aside, and life was forever altered when one of the most severe tornadoes in the Commonwealth's history bore down on the town and surrounding county. In a matter of minutes, the town and its people were left to pick up the pieces and begin the process of rebuilding while the rest of the country celebrated the close of the year.
As the one-year anniversary of the tornado approaches and the community continues to rebuild, Case IH and Farm Journal want the people of Mayfield to know that they haven't been forgotten. Residents and others impacted by the storm are invited to a "Christmas Comeback" celebration with friends, family and the ag community hosted by Tyne Morgan, host of U.S. Farm Report, and Clinton Griffiths, host of AgDay. The community will enjoy singing Christmas carols with American Idol finalist Alex Miller and other holiday activities.
"We are honored to join the Mayfield community this Christmas season to celebrate the hope and resilience they have shown," said Charlene Finck, president of Farm Journal. "We are proud to have a partner like Case IH that recognizes Christmas is the season of giving and gladly came on board for this event, but even more proud to serve a town and its people that so clearly deserve support from the entire agriculture community."
The "Christmas Comeback" event is set for Friday, Dec. 2, 2022, at H&R Agri-Power in Mayfield. From 5:00-7:30 p.m., Copeland's Smash Burgers food truck will be on-site, as well as cookie decorating with Sprinkled Sweet, hayrides, hot chocolate and pictures with Santa. Local businesses have been crucial in putting this event together. From decorating and logistics to food and activities, the event was inspired to not only provide a boost to the community's spirits but to support local businesses who have also weathered the storm.
"The Case IH team is proud to support this event celebrating the strength and perseverance of the Mayfield community," said Traci Rodemeyer, marketing communication manager for Case IH. "With great partners, generous volunteers and lots of teamwork, our goal is to bring light and smiles this holiday season."
The "Christmas Comeback" is a holiday celebration, but also a celebration of the resilience and commitment of the people of Mayfield who continue to rebuild their community. For more information click here.
