From the Beginning … Case’s Contribution to Indy 500 Lore

As gearheads everywhere tune into the Indy 500 race this Memorial Day weekend, we’ve got some trivia for you. Did you know that Racine-Wis. based J.I. Case Threshing Machine Co. (forerunner of today’s Case IH), made premium cars too? Case, new to auto manufacturing, entered not 1 — but 3 — vehicles in the inaugural Indy 500 race in 1911. While none of the Case cars finished the race, driver of car #8 Joe “Racine Joe” Jagersberger contributed to an Indy 500 first, as you’ll see in the 2-minute video … And in another piece of trivia, Case waved the white flag on its auto business in 1927 after producing 24,000 vehicles in 17 years.

 

‘How We Did It’ Family-Run Ag Entrepreneurs: Pilot Episode

It’s been almost exactly 1 year since our friend, Ward McConnell of Art’s Way Mfg., passed away at 89. Our Video Team just put the final touches on this never-before-seen video of Editor/Publisher Mike’s Lessiter’s interview with Ward and son, Marc, both “industry originals.” This 13-minute clip is the “pilot” episode in a larger plan for a documentary style series of 25 interviews with family-run, independent ag equipment manufacturers. Something tells us Ward (a master of M&A) has already submitted to St. Peter a letter of intent to acquire and repurpose purgatory’s real estate -- and with a plan to deliver a 3-year turnaround for his investors.

 

Commencement Speech: Bob Sinclair of Sinclair Tractor

Bob Sinclair, CEO of Iowa’s John Deere multi-store dealership Sinclair Tractor, gave a powerful commencement address at Indian Hills Community College in Ottumwa, Iowa. The 8-minute speech is packed with motivating words to share with your team.
