According to data from the most recent crop progress report from USDA, one quarter of corn in the U.S. has been harvested, surpassing the 14% that was harvested this time last year and the 5 year average of 24%. North Carolina reported the most corn harvested at 85%. Some 87% of corn was reported mature in the week ended Oct. 4, above the 54% reported mature in the same week last year and the 5 year average of 78%.
Corn crop condition was mostly unchanged from last week, aside from corn crops in "good" condition rising one percentage point to 48%, and crops in "very poor" conditions dropping one percentage point to 4%.
Some 85% of soybeans were reported dropping leaves in the week ended Oct. 4, above the 67% reported dropping leaves in the same week last year and the 5 year average of 82%. Nebraska had the most soybean crops dropping leaves at 97%. Some 38% of U.S. soybean crops were reported harvested, above the 12% harvested this time last year and the 5 year average of 28%. Louisiana had the most soybeans harvested at 83%.
Soybean crop condition varied slightly from last week, with crops in "good" condition dropping one percentage point to 50% and soybean crops in "excellent" condition rising one percentage point to 14%.
