The condition of the U.S. corn and crops deteriorated in the past week, according to USDA’s August 30 Crop Progress report. And of the two largest corn and soybean producing states, Illinois is far ahead of neighboring Iowa in terms of the health of its crops.
The most recent USDA crop progress report shows nearly all corn in the U.S. (95%) has emerged as of the week ended June 14, 2020, well above the 74% emerged this time last year and the 5 year average of 92%.
The progress and condition of the U.S. corn and soybean crops all point to a bumper harvest, but increasing temperatures throughout the major growing regions and drought conditions bear watching.
