Whayne Supply Company, a Kentucky and Southern Indiana agriculture and heavy equipment dealer, has entered into an agreement to purchase B&G Equipment Company’s Hopkinsville, Kentucky location. B&G’s is the area dealer for Massey Ferguson tractors and Gleaner combines along with other agriculture lines of equipment. The purchase, with a target close date of September 30, will expand Whayne’s product offerings at its existing Hopkinsville location.
“We’re very excited to add the Massey Ferguson and Gleaner products to our existing Hopkinsville operation. This purchase follows our strategic growth initiative for the agriculture market in our territory,” said Richard M. Scott, Vice-President and General Manager Agri-Business and Growth Industries for Whayne Supply Company and Walker Machinery Company. “B&G has a long history of award-winning sales and support performance and we are pleased to combine that with our dedicated employees. The entire Whayne Walker organization looks forward to providing the same level of dependable sales and service they experienced from the B&G organization.”
Founded in 1913 by Roy C. Whayne, Whayne Supply Company has been serving the heavy equipment and agriculture industry for over 100 years and has grown to be one of the largest Caterpillar Dealers in the world. The company was purchased by longtime company executive Monty L. Boyd in 2008 from the Whayne family. In 2010 Mr. Boyd purchased Walker Machinery Company, the Caterpillar Dealer for over 60 years in West Virginia and Southeastern Ohio. Combined the two dealerships have 25 locations to sell and service equipment for the Agriculture, Construction, Power Systems and Mining Industries.
“We have negotiated an agreement with Whayne Supply to continue the personalized service our customers have come to expect and provide a seamless transition for our customers,” said Tim Brannon, president of B&G Equipment, Inc. “This sale and merger is unique in our industry thanks to Whayne Supply’s desire to build on the business module we have employed. We look forward to a new working relationship with Whayne Supply as our two businesses continue to grow and better serve our customers,” he said.
B&G Equipment Company was founded in 1978 by Tim Brannon and Steve Gallimore in Paris, Tennessee. They expanded to Hopkinsville in 1997 with Larry Brannon relocating from Paris to manage the Hopkinsville operation in order to provide a continuum of service and sales to the agricultural market for Allis, Gleaner, Massey, and AGCOHeritage brand customers. B&G was recognized for 3 consecutive years by AGCO as a Circle of Excellence award winning dealership. The Paris, TN location of B&G Equipment is not included in this transaction and will continue to operate and serve their customers just as they have for the past 36 years.
“This acquisition is a very exciting development for AGCO,” says Alistair McLelland, vice president of marketing in North America for AGCO Corporation. “We are pleased that Whayne Supply will now represent the full line of AGCO products and brands at their Hopkinsville location. AGCO would like to recognize B&G for the many years of superior service they have provided customers in the Hopkinsville area and we are confident that Whayne Supply will build on the solid foundation created by B&G and grow their business in the Hopkinsville territory in the future. This acquisition ensures continuity and growth of the successful AGCO business that both dealerships have established.”
