The condition of the U.S. corn and crops deteriorated in the past week, according to USDA’s August 30 Crop Progress report. And of the two largest corn and soybean producing states, Illinois is far ahead of neighboring Iowa in terms of the health of its crops.
The most recent USDA crop progress report shows nearly all corn in the U.S. (95%) has emerged as of the week ended June 14, 2020, well above the 74% emerged this time last year and the 5 year average of 92%.
U.S. farmers planted 16% of their corn acres, while an additional 21% of soybeans were sown last week, an improvement over recent reports, according to the USDA’s latest Crop Progress report.
