Will Tariffs & a Trade War be 2025's Equivalent of the 1980 Grain Embargo?
Damian Mason tackles this question and provides some historical perspective in his answer. He says, “I do see some comparisons: Then, like now, we were coming off of an amazing run for the Ag economy. Then, like now, we were completely oversupplied. Then, like now, there was excessive global friction.”
The Future of Ag: Then & Now
X user Jordy Kitschke from Australia shared this story about his grandpa talking to him about in his time he saw horses being used to plow a field and a 600 horsepower tractor. “I remember thinking, if we’ve gone from 6 horses to 600 horsepower in his lifetime, what will it look like when I’m his age? I remember thinking ‘well it’s probably not a 60,000hp tractor,” he says.
I remember standing in this paddock with my grandpa when I was a kid as we were watching a 600hp tractor putting a crop in, and he shook his head and said ‘you know I used to plough paddocks with horses when I was a kid’.
