S3 Group, a manufacturer of farm equipment based in Saskatchewan, is preparing to open a production facility in Medicine Hat, Alta., with the goal of bringing domestic ag production back to Canada, according to a recent article in Medicine Hat News.In a tour of the 22,000 square foot warehouse and production floor, CEO of S3 Richelle Andreas says that “Many of our competitors are offshoring production, and we’re trying to bring that back to North America.” Alberta’s government is contributing grants to S3 Group who says that the facility in Medicine Hat’s SW Light Industrial area could grow to employ 100 people to assemble motor and drying equipment for grain bins. In addition, Medicine Hat News reports that the Alberta Investment and Growth Fund will supplement S3’s $7 million investment with their own $1.3 million to help set up in the city.
Premier Danielle Smith says that she’s “signed a letter with Montana’s governor asking the federal government for a 24-hour crossing at the Wildhorse Port of Entry … We’re on standby to do whatever we can to support the region with additional economic development, and once we have connection and good routes all through southern Alberta, it will be self-reinforcing.”Hiring and training has already begun at the Medicine Hat production facility, and operations could begin this month. The full Medicine Hat News article can be found here.
