Farm Equipment editors encounter a variety of articles, social media posts, podcasts and videos that offer a unique look at various aspects of our great farm machinery industry. Here is our favorite content from the past week from across the web:
- Ray Rawson: A True Equipment Innovator
- Texas A&M Recognizes Terry Hlavinka

Best of the Web This Week is brought to you by CLEANFIX.
Proven in the most demanding of ag conditions, CLEANFIX reversible fans provide the most efficient diesel engine cooling and radiator cleaning available. The multi-patented reversing fan technology maintains machine cooling as needed and, when required, provides the strongest blowout of dust and debris -- without halting or slowing operations.
Ray Rawson: A True Equipment Innovator
The farming and farm equipment industry lost a true innovator last week in Ray Rawson, the Michigan farmer turned machinery innovator who pioneered the 3-coulter and zone-till planting system. Here is a tribute from Frank Lessiter, who visited Ray’s farm (often with son, Mike, Farm Equipment editor/publisher) throughout the 1970-80s. Rawson (a No-Till Innovator Alum and No-Till Farmer Legend) was known for selling off his planter each summer to hold his feet to the fire in ensuring one or more of his machine theories would be put into action the following season.
Texas A&M Recognizes Terry Hlavinka
Congrats to Hlavinka Equipment’s president Terry Hlavinka, who was recently recognized by his alma mater, Texas A&M, which recently celebrated 100 years of Agricultural Economics during its Texas A&M Department of Agricultural Economics tailgate. Dating back to 1920, the Tyrus R. Timm Honor Registry of Former Students in Agricultural Economics has been established to recognize and honor those graduates who have distinguished themselves in a meritorious way by reaching a significant level of accomplishment in their chosen field. The inductees into the Honor Registry represent the highest standards of integrity and character as recognized by their peers and will reflect positively on the Department of Agricultural Economics and Texas A&M University.
Not So Fast, Marion … There’s a New CEO of Corn
America’s favorite starchy-seeded grass seems to be getting a new pronunciation this harvest season. We appreciate the enthusiasm and agree it’s a “beautiful thing.” Butter too.
10 Years Ago We Printed the First Issue of Precision Farming Dealer
As we put the final touches on the 8th Precision Farming Dealer Summit program last week, we were reminded that 10 years ago we debuted the very first issue of Precision Farming Dealer magazine. In just a decade, the precision farming business has grown far beyond what we covered in this first issue.
Product Video of the Week: Introducing the TRION 740 Combine from CLAAS
Product supervisor Jeff Gray shows off the TRION 740 combine, a new addition to the CLAAS lineup. Designed to be more straight-forward combine compared to its counterpart, the LEXION 740, the TRION 740 boasts a single rotor versus to the LEXION's duel separated rotors. This model will best serve the farmer with fields under 3000 acres, allowing them to optimize the productivity or their operations. The TRION 740 also offers the option to add TERRA TRAC for improved compaction.
