History Video with Blake Brown: Revisiting the Renowned Milan No-Till Field Day
Every ag equipment dealer in the Mid-South knows of the reputation of the Milan (Tennessee) No-Till Field Day, single-handedly responsible for demonstrating equipment prototypes in conservation tillage. In this history series on equipment advances, Farm Equipment’s Mike Lessiter sits with Blake Brown, director of the AgResearch & Education Center to revisit the launch of the Field Day and the center who shares a 60th birthday with the no-till practice itself. Not only is Milan widely credited for practical research and the proving ground for novel equipment innovations, but it saved the Tennessee farmer from what Brown could have made the state an “inland beach.” Mark your calendar – and pack your sunscreen – for the July 28 event, the first in 4 years.
Ray Kinsella’s Cornfield Conundrum: Field of Dreams 34 Years Later
No-Till Farmer picked up Mike Lessiter’s “Guest Blog” about a trip to the “Field of Dreams” farm/field site in Dyersville, Iowa. Following another viewing of the 34-year-old film, the Lessiter lads dove into an ag economics discussion about Ray Kinsella’s (Kevin Costner’s) farming woes, which must have been bigger than hearing voices in the corn. Read it here in advance of the broadcast of the Cubs-Reds contest in Dyersville on August 11. And for the northerners driving to the Dealership Minds Summit next week, the Dyersville film site is 75 miles northeast of Iowa City. Follow the Directions here.

Dealers handling Orthman units – new and used – find tips for setting strip-till toolbar for best results; changes for fall vs.spring applications, and service and maintenance tips. Orthman is 1 of 12 Title Sponsors dealers can meet at next week’s National Strip-Tillage Conference in Iowa City.
