Farm Equipment editors encounter a variety of articles, social media posts, podcasts and videos that offer a unique look at various aspects of our great farm machinery industry. Here is our favorite content from the past week from across the web:
- California OSHA Asleep at the Wheel; Autonomous Outlook Delivered Setback by 1970s-Era Regulations
- Saskatchewan Crooners Bemoan Drought Conditions
- Implement Guidance Finds More Labor to Drive Tractors
- Totally Tuber!

Proven in the most demanding of ag conditions, CLEANFIX reversible fans provide the most efficient diesel engine cooling and radiator cleaning available. The multi-patented reversing fan technology maintains machine cooling as needed and, when required, provides the strongest blowout of dust and debris -- without halting or slowing operations.
California OSHA Asleep at the Wheel; Autonomous Outlook Delivered Setback by 1970s-Era Regulations
On June 16, Monarch Tractor’s petition (with the support of AEM and Far West Dealers Assn.) to amend a 1970s-era California regulation thwarting progress in autonomous farming was denied by a 4-3 vote. Penned 3 decades before GPS was even introduced to farming, the regulation states “all self-propelled equipment shall, when under its own power and in motion, have an operator stationed at the vehicular controls.” This 13-minute video from CNET is one of the better videos we found explaining today’s technology and what it promises farmers for worker safety while mitigating labor shortages. Yet another head-scratcher from the “land of fruits and nuts.”
Saskatchewan Crooners Bemoan Drought Conditions
It wasn’t long ago that we included a parody song (TractorStuck by the Peterson Bros.) warning our viewers about equipment getting stuck in the field during rainsoaked planting conditions. Six weeks later, we’re hearing from many corners of our readership about the very concerning lack of rain. So we went back to the files to bring this acapella 2018 Facebook video of the 5 Hunter Brothers, Saskatchewan grain farmers (and now real-life musicians) about their plight.
Implement Guidance Finds More Labor to Drive Tractors
Would you trust a operator with 4 days of experience to drive alongside your new iPhone? Laforge’s Kyle Frazier put his device on the line show how implement guidance can turn a rookie driver into a trusted operator.
Totally Tuber!
Cover crops are all the rage these days for their soil protecting and nutrient adding properties, but this is downright crazy. And the photo is not clickbait according to our colleagues at Cover Crop Strategies who covered the story of this South African grower and his 1-meter long tillage radish on June 20.
U.S. to Build Temporary Silos In An Effort to Move Grains Out of Ukraine
President Biden said recently that the U.S. will build temporary silos on Poland's boarder in an effort to help transport grain out Ukraine via rail, reports Farm Journal.
