Dealer in the War Zone: 21st Century Equipment Export Manager’s Trip to Ukraine

This 5-minute video captures the events of February 24, 2022, when 21st Century Equipment’s Alex Tkachenko awoke to explosions. The export manager for the large U.S. John Deere dealership was with family in Kherson, Ukraine, during a business trip to the country. Not only would he personally witness his homeland’s invasion; he also assisted Ukrainian officials in reconnaissance in the early hours of the invasion.

 

‘This Week in History’ ... Global Seed Vault

This week – 16 years ago – the prime ministers of Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark and Iceland gathered on a remote island between Norway and the North Pole to lay the ceremonial first stone of the Global Seed Vault. The vault, which today has the capacity to hold 2.25 billion seeds, stores seeds in such a way that they remain viable for decades or even centuries. Read more at HISTORY.

Ag Economy Barometer Breakdown, May 2022 Survey Results

The Purdue University-CME Group Ag Economy Barometer plummeted in May to a reading of just 99, the weakest farmer sentiment reading since April 2020. The May 2022 barometer reading marked just the 9th time since data collection began in fall 2015 that the overall measure of farmer sentiment fell below 100. Purdue ag economist James Mintert breaks down the results of the May 2022 Ag Economy Barometer survey.
