USDA's crop progress report for the week ended August 8 reported 8% of corn dented, below the 10% reported dented in the same week last year. The 5-year average for corn dented in this week was 11%.
USDA has reported some 95% of corn crops silking, below the 96% reported silking in the same week last year. The 5-year average for corn silking in the week was 94%.
Around 56% of corn crops were in the dough stage, in line with the 56% reported in the same week last year and above the 5-year average of 51%.
Around 49% of corn crops were reported in "good" condition, with another 15% in "excellent" condition and 25% in "fair condition."
The report stated 91% of soybeans were blooming in the same week, in line with the 91% reported blooming in the same week last year. The 5-year average for soybean blooming in this week was 89%.
Some 72% of soybeans were reportedly setting pods, below the 73% reported setting pods in the same week last year. The 5-year average for soybeans setting pods in this week was 68%.
Some 48% of soybean crops were reported in "good" condition, with another 12% in "excellent" condition and 27% in "fair condition."
