According to the latest Crop Progress report from USDA, 41% of corn has emerged as of the week ended May 16. This surpasses the 20% reported emerged in the previous week and the 40% emerged in the same week last year. The 5-year average emergence rate for this week was 35%.
Some 80% of corn was reported planted in the same report, above both the 78% planted last year and the 67% planted in the week prior. The 5-year average planting rate for this week was 68%.
USDA also reported 61% of soybeans have been planted, an increase from the 51% planted by this point last year. This also surpasses the 37% 5-year average.
According to the report, 20% of soybeans have emerged, above the 16% reported emerged in the same week last year. The 5-year average for soybean emergence in this week was 12%.
