According to a report from Bloomberg, Deere has plans to expand its presence in Australia and New Zealand, including an increased focus on precision agriculture. Managing director for both countries, Luke Chandler, has stated the company's focuses in the region will include precision, turf, construction, forestry and some mining. The report noted that Caterpillar currently dominates the mining and construction sector in Australia and New Zealand.

"We have been present in the Australian and New Zealand market in agriculture and turf for a number of years,” Chandler said in an interview. “John Deere’s construction business is incredibly strong in North America, but we see a real opportunity given the sophistication of the clients and customers there."

The report said that Deere plans to focus more on the infrastructure and earthmoving sectors as well as "focus on developing precision agriculture tools, many of which help farmers cut costs." 

"Around 60-65% of agriculture production is exported, so Australian and New Zealand farmers need to be extremely competitive in the world market,” Chandler said.
