The Titensor family — owners of Valley Implement — got their start in the farm equipment business with a somewhat unusual trade. In 1951, Lowell Titensor, who owned a homestead farm and bred horses for the U.S. calvary,  was looking to find a new way to earn a living. The owners of Lewiston Implement were looking to sell their dealership and buy some land out in Washington. The two parties made a trade, and groundwork was laid for what would become Valley Implement, today a 4-store Case IH and New Holland dealership based in Preston, Idaho.

Today, Fred Titensor, Lowell’s great grandson, runs the business along with his father Sid. And, Fred’s grandfather, Kay Titensor, now 90, still makes the occasional call to check in on how the dealership is doing.

Nearly 70 years later, the dealership is thriving, but in the early days success wasn’t a guarantee.

Of course they said, ‘If you don't do these things, we're going to make him our dealer.’ But after I got that paperwork from John Deere, I was approved as a John Deere dealer … when the Case IH boys came to lean on me, to do all these things, I said, ‘I'd like to be your dealer, but I'm not going to do any of that stuff because it will break us …’ And I slid those letters across the desk, my approval letters from John Deere,” Sid says when discussing the Case and International Harvester merger in the 80s and how the new company chose who would be the dealer in town.
