The latest Crop Progress report from USDA shows both corn and soybean planting progress remains above last year's progress. Corn was reported at 93% planted, above the 64% planted this time last year, and above the 89% five year average planting progress. North Carolina became the first state to report 100% of its corn planted in this report; Minnesota followed closely at 99%.
Additionally, 78% of corn was reported emerged, well above the 42% reported emerged this time last year, and slightly above the five year average of 73% emerged. Texas was the frontrunner at 96% emerged, with Iowa and North Carolina following at 93% emerged. In the week, 13% of corn condition was reported as "excellent" and 61% was reported as "good."
Soybean planting progress was at 75%, more than double the 36% reported this time last year and above the 68% five year average. Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska were tied for the most soybeans planted at 95%.
Soybean emergence came in at 52%, more than triple the 17% reported this time last year and slightly above the 44% five year average. Louisiana had the most soybeans emerged at 79%. In the week, 10% of soybean crops were reported as "excellent" condition and 60% was reported as "good."
