When the Case IH dealership in Urbana, Ohio, fell into some financial and legal trouble and ultimately went out of business in 2003, farmers and the former employees were left without a local dealership. The community pulled together though and despite a number of roadblocks along the way formed Farmers Equipment, bringing a Case IH dealership back to the area in 2004.
Todd Channell, general manager, sat down to talk during the United Equipment Dealers Assn. Annual Convention. He shared the inspiring story of how he and the rest of the community pulled together and found a way to build a dealership.
“I stood up at one of those meetings and said, ‘You know, there’s no guarantee this is going to work at all. We think we can make it work, and we need all of you to make it work.’ And we got it. The community got behind us,” Channell says about the early days of trying to pull the resources together to start the dealership.
Today the dealership, which has 92 community shareholders, has 3 locations in Urbana, Lakeview and Elida, Ohio. In addition to Case IH, the dealership carries Kubota, Salford, Reinke, Westfield, Remlinger, Unverferth, Scag, Exmark, Grasshopper, Land Pride and J&M equipment.
