In an opinion piece published in U.S. News & World Report on Jan. 23, Rich Goldsbury, president of Doosan Bobcat in North America and Oceania, and 2018 chair of the Assn. of Equipment Manufacturers, urged the President and Congress “Don't Walk Away from NAFTA.” He said, “Consider this fact: About 30% of the construction and farm machinery manufactured in the U.S. is eventually shipped and sold into another foreign country … “Farm equipment manufacturers sold $2.1 billion in machinery to Canada and $1.2 billion into Mexico in 2016.”

He added, “The NAFTA agreement has helped to facilitate these important export markets by eliminating most tariffs and barriers to market access when the agreement came into effect. In the first five years of this decade, construction equipment exports to Canada and Mexico totaled $85.2 billion. In Mexico, manufacturers of sprayers used for farm applications command a whopping two-thirds of the market share.”
