ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The Equipment Dealers Assn. (EDA) has scheduled a free webinar for members to discuss the implications of the “right to repair” movement and how this type of legislation, if enacted, could impact equipment dealers across the U.S.  Will Rogers, director of government relations for the Iowa-Nebraska Equipment Dealers Assn. (INEDA) will be co-hosting with EDA’s Natalie Higgins, vice president of government relations and general counsel.

EDA’s webinar will:

  • Explain the main arguments advanced by proponents of “right to repair” legislation including:
    • Farmer’s cannot fix their own equipment;
    • Equipment dealers are afraid of competition;
    • Equipment owners and third party repair facilities could safely fix equipment if they were given access to the same technology as authorized dealers;
    • Equipment dealers and manufacturers face no legal risk if an equipment owner or third party repair facility modifies or repairs equipment.
  • Explain the key areas of concern that EDA and other industry leaders have with this type of legislation including;
    • Whether this is a state or federal issue;
    • Liability allocation and implications;
    • Safety ramifications for customers;
    • Resale value implications for dealers and customers;
    • Preservation of the rural economic value that authorized dealers provide to their communities;
    • Equitable preservation of dealer investments in safety, technology and liability measures which are designed to protect dealership employees and customers;
  • Provide dealers with the information they need to educate their staff, customers, communities and legislators about this issue.
