SHELL ROCK, Iowa — Unverferth Mfg. Co. announced another round of layoffs at its Shell Rock,Iowa, plant, the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports.
The layoffs go into effect Jan. 4, Mark Shaw, human resources director at the Shell Rock plant, told the newspaper. Employees were informed of the layoffs earlier this month, while the first layoff came at the end of November.
In both instances, the company declined to comment on the number of employees impacted by the layoffs. However, a source outside the company told the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier that 48 workers were involved in the first round of layoffs. Both announcements are attributed to the "sagging agriculture economy," the paper said. It's unknown how long the layoffs would last.
