Over Half of E-Watch Readers Oppose ‘Right to Repair’

July 10, 2017

Following the release of a report in June by the U.S. Copyright Office that suggested the U.S. government take action to make the “Right to Repair” permanently legal, Farm-Equipment.com polled visitors asking them whether they agreed or disagreed.

Not surprisingly, 61.3% disagreed with the Copyright Office, with 48.6% saying they “strongly disagree” and 12.7% saying they “somewhat disagree.” One reader commented, “Mechanical modification to a customer’s tractor equipment almost always causes us to allow less for a trade-in. Electronic modifications (if we know about them) could result in our declining to make an offer on the trade-in.”

A quarter of respondents, however, strongly agree that customers’ right to repair should be permanently legal.
